Apple Vision Pro: Here come the apps!
Apple launched the SDK, software beta program and simulator. Now we get to see what software developers will create!
It’s on!
Apple yesterday released the first beta version of the software that powers its $3,499 Apple Vision Pro platform, called visionOS, plus their visionOS software development kit.
Apple also rolled out a simulator. So we’ll get to see pictures and videos of Vision Pro apps online well before the hardware ships. (Here’s what it’s like to use the simulator.)
Videos showing third-party apps are also emerging, including this visionOS game.
We also learned more about what Apple is thinking and planning. The company promised “developer labs” where software makers can try out their creations on actual Vision Pro hardware and get help from Apple engineers. These labs will open next month in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo, according to Apple.
The emergence of apps and demos will teach the tech-loving world new words, phrases and concepts, such as “Shared Space” (showing more than one app floating in space) and “Full Space” where one app takes over the whole visual environment, displays disconnected 3D content that moves around in the room, portals to virtual worlds or full-blown VR.
