Apple Vision Pro Robots, hostile virtual girlfriends, pogo stick drones and more!
Mike’s List of Brilliantly Bad Ideas
1. Apple Vision Pro to control robots and drones
A newly granted Apple patent reveals ambitious intentions for the Apple Vision Pro. The patent describes scenarios where the spatial computing platform could be used with a robot or drone. The idea is that while wearing an Apple Vision Pro, the user both controls and gets live audio and video from a remote “body.” In a word: telepresence. While working from home, you could work in a far away physical office via a humanoid robot, which could enable you to remotely walk around, attend meetings and frighten colleagues. Or you could inspect a hazardous site while inhabiting a drone. If that sounds farfetch, something like this is already happening in Japan (without Apple Vision Pro), where remote workers are controlling robots in stores to re-stock shelves.

2. This “virtual girlfriend” is always mad at you
A new virtual girlfriend app for iPhone is always angry. It’s called — what else? — AngryGF. The app is designed to provide practice soothing an angry wife or girlfriend. It’s like Angry Birds, but for relationships. Or something.

3. Hop-Copter: A drone that bounces and flies
Researchers in Hong Kong have developed a drone called the Hop-Copter that can both fly and hop like a pogo stick. The device has a spring-loaded, telescopic leg that enables the drone to conserve energy, extending the amount of operational time on one battery charge from a few minutes to nearly an hour. I can’t wait for the big version that can carry people (no, they’re not working on this….) Here comes the video!
