Brilliantly Bad Weekend Edition
TV for dogs, a new dog robot and the worst electric vehicle ever — and more!
Mike’s List of Brilliantly Bad Ideas
1. Somebody is actually making TVs for dogs
We want our dogs to have all the things people have, from Halloween costumes to beer. Now, your dog can have its very own TV! Dogsplay is an interactive TV optimized for dogs. The colors, video frame-rate and sound system have been optimized for dog vision and dog hearing. And you can even sign up for dog-specific programming on two services called — wait for it! — Dogflix and Dogmusic! The Dogsplay also works as a video conference system so you can have remote meetings with your dog.
2. Now you can buy a CyberDog to ride in the back of your CyberTruck
Xiaomi announced its CyberDog 2 robot this week. Instead of the cute and cuddly Sony Aibo puppy robot, the CyberDog is a charmless Doberman-looking dog loaded with cameras (a 13-megapixel interactive AI camera, an RGB camera and a fisheye camera), four microphones and both touch and lidar sensors. The robot is vaguely “open source” and can be programmed. The CyberDog can ride a skateboard and do back flips, with the agility similar to Boston Dynamics’ Spot. It’s available only in China and is probably best suited for security and surveillance.
3. The power of a lawn mower with all the elegance of a clown car
The Lampago is a cross between a scooter, a sporty convertible and carnival bumper car. Sold by the Turkish company of the same name and designed by Yavuz Cinkaya, Osman Colcak and Selen Sarkaya, the trike will make you feel like a giant or an idiot (or a giant idiot) as you roll slowly down the street. The battery will take you roughly thirty miles on a charge at a top speed of 28 mph.
