Mike's List 252
Yet another massive Facebook data leak. Plus, a one-post social network; a CAPTCHA game; emoji skin; and much more!
If your Facebook data got leaked today, it's your own damn fault
You've been warned dozens of times in the past decade.
News broke in the past few hours that the personal data of some 533 million Facebook users got leaked online. Any cybercriminal in the world can just grab all the data and use it for identity theft, social engineering attacks, spamming and much more.
If your data was leaked, I'm sorry to say, it's your fault. Here’s why.
Mike’s List of Brilliantly Bad Ideas
1. Minimalist social networks
A new minimalist social network called One New Post lets you see a maximum of one post per day, and lets you post only one post per day. It’s the next best thing to not using a social network at all!
2. CAPTCHA-based games
If you haven’t been confronted enough lately by Google’s annoying CAPTCHA system (where they pretend you’re proving you’re human but you’re actually giving Google free labor to use your human intelligence to compensate for the failures of machine intelligence) then you’re in luck! The free online game “I Am Not a Robot” uses a CAPTCHA-like system for you to to identify the pareidolia illusion from photos of everyday objects. Get some.
3. Using AI to put human skin on emojis
Behold: Flesh emojis for sale! Four trends collided catastrophically on Twitter this week:
Emojis
Artificial intelligence that gives cartoonish emojis human-like skin
NFTs
AI that animates still photos
One thing led to another and… get the hideous details here.
4. A covid mask that doesn’t cover your mouth
Researchers in Mexico have invented a covid mask just for the nose. They say that it’s for time when you would otherwise wear no mask, such as when you’re drinking so much alcohol that you invent a nose-only mask, or when you’re talking to the press about your nose-only mask. Sadly, they’re too late. The Chinese have already invented this. Even my friend, Naomi, the Sexy Cyborg, invented one.
