Also maybe he’s not a genius about anything.

Electrics cars were going to happen anyway, he didn’t create Tesla, he was able to invest early because he was a multi millionaire.

Actual geniuses do the science and the engineering for him while he makes the sales and the jokes and takes credit for everything.

Boring company? We invented the subway before

Autonomous cars predicted? Still not fully autonomous cars ready

Going to Mars is really urgent to protect humanity? At the moment it’s pure science fiction so how about we invent laser shields too... it’s talk without any substance

We live in a simulation? Debunked as unscientific

I get what you're saying. But both Tesla and SpaceX are impressive companies, and as the CEO of those companies credit is due.

I agree, I just think that not only are his competences not automatically adaptable to Twitter, they also have been overhyped, over-credited to begin with ☺️

This is truth repeated throughout all the spheres of life - just because someone is good at a thing, doesn't mean they are good at other things.

Social media of course is largely built on the inverse - that because one is good at something (e.g. songwriting) they have a fiat to blather to millions of people who like their songwriting, about whatever enters their mind (which, remember, is only good for songwriting...)

Watching Musk burn his treasure is a delight, I have to admit

My own definition of a narcissistic asshole is someone who causes pain to very large numbers of people based on their own whim or impulse, which I believe is the origin of his Twitter purchase. Millions of people have each invested thousands of hours building community on Twitter, and Musk threatens it just because he felt like it. He's just a horrible person.

Yeah - it disappoints me that he is lauded in any fashion. I totally agree with your assessment that this has transpired through an impulse - a brain fart, if you will; I think he shat out 44B because he is so vain and weak that he can't keep his mouth shut and is incapable of admitting errors of judgement. The legal challenge to the deal is as close to admitting error that we will see. He also wants everyone to have everyone believe that 44B is spending money for him, that he is awesome on a scale unprecedented.

Perhaps he will sell at a loss at some point, and call up some other awesome venture as needing his focus instead. I doubt that what's happening to Twitter is going to engage him beyond the short term

I disagree it seems with most of the opinions here re: Musk & Twitter.

How is insular Groupthink so easily explained away? What about getting instructions from and complying with the US Government? What about banning and censoring members, as requested? I don't perceive any nastyness in his behavior. =my .02cents..
